Dick Soukup is an independent consultant to bank executive management and their board of directors in the Chicago banking community. His consulting service is focused on bank regulatory issues and strategic alternatives in the current troubled banking environment.
On June 30, 2009, Dick retired from his role as a client service audit partner at Plante & Moran, ending a distinguished 40-year career serving community banks. Prior to joining Plante & Moran in 2006, Dick held leadership positions as audit partner and Chicago Practice Leader with Grant Thornton for 16 years and another national CPA firm for 14 years. He began his banking career with the FDIC as a bank examiner in the Chicago region.
During his public accounting career, he has been responsible for serving numerous financial institutions and holding companies, ranging in size from newly chartered de novo institutions to banks with several billion dollars in total assets. His practice has focused on bank auditing and accounting, holding company formations, merger and acquisition consulting, bank regulatory relations, de novo bank formations, and tax planning. He has also developed an expertise in serving consumer finance, mortgage banking, and automotive warranty companies.
Dick served a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the Illinois CPA Society. He is past chairman of the Illinois CPA Society Specialized Industry Committee for the Banking Industry and has served on the Coordination and Planning Committee and the Finance Committee, both executive-level committees of the Society. He has also been an instructor at internal training programs and banking programs for the Bank Administration Institute.
He is a graduate of the University of Illinois and completed postgraduate studies in tax and accounting at DePaul University. He is a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society.
